The Prime Time Investigates programme, which was screened by RTE1 on the 17th May, 2010 attracted a peak audience of 653,700 viewers or 41% audience share, a record audience for the programme.
Prime Time Investigates: Tyres – A Dirty Business exposed the dirty world of tyre recycling with reporter Paul Maguire going undercover to confront the rogue dealers who are making vast amounts of money while flouting the law and destroying the landscape.
Over four million tyres are cast aside every year and motorists pay at least three euro built into the price of new tyres to have these hazardous items recycled and there is a thriving recycling business but not here in Ireland.
For years these items were dumped into landfills but since Green Minister Gormley changed the law in 2008 they should be recycled.
